Description
The ViPrimePLUS Clostridium difficile (toxin B) qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Clostridium difficile (toxin B) genomes in faecal and food samples. This assay is intended for in vitro diagnostics use only.
Clostridium spp. represents a group of anaerobic, spore-forming, Gram positive bacteria that infects the gastrointestinal tract, causing serious diarrhea, or the nervous system, causing neurological damage. Clostridium spp. has great survival mechanism because they sporulate under extreme conditions, but transform into infectious form when the environment turns favorable again. Clostridium difficile also causes colitis, an infection of the colon, due to the administration of some broad-range antibiotic. When a majority of the normal flora in the gut is removed by the broad-spectrum antibiotic, the resilient C. difficile takes the opportunity to colonize the gut and later secrete toxins, i.e. toxin A (enterotoxin) and toxin B (cytotoxin). Toxin B is found in all strains, however toxin A is only found in 70% of them. This species is closely-related to the bacterium that causes tetanus and botulism.
