Description
The ViPrimePLUS Chlamydophila pneumoniae qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Chlamydophila pneumoniae genomes in clinical samples (e.g. respiratory fluids and swabs).
Chlamydophila pneumoniae is a Gram negative, obligated intracellular bacterium which infects the mucosal membrane of the respiratory tract, causing atypical pneumonia, bronchitis, sinusitis, laryngitis and pharyngitis. It is an atypical pathogen that causes 10-20% of the community-acquired pneumonia cases in *****s. Risk of infection in males is higher than females, which is probably attributed to smoking. An elderly person may suffer more severe complications from the infection than youths. Incubation period of the infections is 3-4 weeks with gradual onset, from milder upper respiratory tract symptoms, such as persistent coughing, malaise and fever, to more serious pneumonia and bronchitis development. Detection with real time PCR provides real and accurate diagnosis of the source of infection.
