The ViPrimePLUS Helicobacter pylori qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Helicobacter pylori genomes in clinical samples (e.g. stool, gastric fluids and biopsies).
Helicobacter pylori is a bacterium that causes chronic gastritis, peptic ulcers, and is also believed to be related to stomach cancer. It is estimated that 50% of the world's population carry H. pyloriin their gastrointestinal tract, with more prevalsence in congested places, but only a few showed symptoms. The bacterium's ability to thrive in highly acidic environment enables it to live and infect the mucosal lining of the stomach and duodenum, causing damage. H. pylori is transmitted from person to person via faecal-oral or oral-oral route. There is no single test established as the gold standard for the diagnosis of H. pylori. It is recommended to use the concordant results of at least two tests to define the infection status. The most commonly used tests are the invasive rapid urease test (RUT) and routine histology on biopsies, and the non-invasive ¹³C-urea breath test (UBT), and stool antigen tests. Real time PCR can be the potential gold standard for H. pylori diagnosis.
