Description
The ViPrimePLUS Hepatitis C Virus RT-qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Hepatitis C Virus genome in clinical samples (e.g. blood plasma, serum and liver biopsy).
Hepatitis C virus is a small, enveloped, single stranded RNA virus. About 3-4million people worldwide are infected with the virus each year and 350 000 deaths resulted from it. The virus is transmitted through contact with infected blood. Hepatitis C causes both acute and chronic infection which leads to liver cirrhosis, liver cancer and fatal liver failure. Because of its severity, Hepatitis C disease is the main reason for liver transplants in US. Vaccines have yet to be developed due to the highly mutable RNA genome. Anti-viral drug are currently in the stages of clinical studies. Thus, fast and accurate detection is essential in preventing the irreversible liver damage.
