Description
The ViPrimePLUS Respiratory Syncytial Virus type A RT-qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Respiratory Syncytial Virus type A genome in clinical samples (e.g. sputum, nasopharyngeal aspirate and throat swab).
Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is a single stranded RNA virus which causes respiratory tract infection in all ages. The two most prevalsent subtypes are namely, RSV-A and RSV-B. Previous infection does not induce immunity in man, thus repeat infection can occur. Most of the infected people show only mild symptoms similar to normal cold. However, bronchiolitis and pneumonia may occur in immunocompromised patients and infants born prematurely. Early and differential diagnosis of RSV infections is necessary for monitoring of the infected infants, for prevention of nosocomial spread, and, in some cases, to guide the choice of a possible adapted antivirus therapy.
