Description
The ViPrimePLUS Human Rhinovirus RT-qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of all Human Rhinovirus species genomes in clinical samples (e.g. sputum, nasopharyngeal aspirate and throat swab).
Human Rhinovirus (HRV) is a single-stranded RNA virus which causes 50% of the common cold cases in human. There are 3 genetically distinct groups of HRV, i.e. group A, B and C, where more than 100 serotypes are described. Wheezing is the frequent manifestation of lower respiratory tract infection by HRV in young children. It is also associated with upper respiratory tract infection, otitis media, and sinusitis. Recent evidence suggests that infection with HRV-C may result in more severe disease. HRV-C has a global distribution, with a prevalsence intermediate with HRV-A and HRV-B. There are currently no approved antiviral therapies for HRVs, and treatment remains primarily supportive.
