Description
The ViPrimePLUS Wesselsbron Virus RT-qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Wesselsbron Virus genome in clinical samples (e.g. serum blood).
Wesselsbron virus (WESSV) is a single stranded RNA virus, which causes acute febrile infection in lifestocks, such as sheep, cattle and goats. There are reported cases in horses, camels and ostriches, too. This arthropod-borne virus is mainly observed in Southern African and some other sub-Saharan countries. Infection in human is possible, leading to influenza like symptoms. Wesselsbron virus is transmitted by Aedes mosquito especially among domestic herbivores in warm and humid climate. Animal to human transmission can occur when handling infected animal carcasses. Infection in newborn lambs can be fatal, up to 30% mortality rate. Other clinical signs include weakness, subcutaneous edema and respiratory difficulties.
