Description
The ViPrimePLUS Tritrichomonas foetus qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Tritrichomonas foetus genome in clinical sample such as preputial washing from bulls, cervicovaginal secretion from female cattle and faeces from cats.
Tritrichomonas foetus is a flagellated protozoan, responsible for bovine tritrichomonosis, which leads to infertility, early embryonic death, rare abortions and pyometra in cows and heifers. The parasite is transmitted to cows from infected bulls during coitus. Screening of the breeding animals and artificial insemination has helped to control this sexually transmitted disease. Infection in domestic cats is also common where the parasite colonizes the large intestine, and causes colitis and chronic diarrhoea. This infection is primarily spread via faecal-oral or direct contact routes. Recovered cats may continue shedding the parasites for several months. Conventional diagnosis method of the disease is mainly based on microscopic examination of the organism in culture medium, which can be both laborious and insensitivity. Thus, real time PCR offers an improved diagnostics tool that is sensitive and specific for this purpose.
