Description
The ViPrimePLUS Leishmania tropica qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Leishmania tropica genomes in clinical samples (e.g. blood and skin scraping).
Leishmania is a zoonotic protozoan which is transmitted by the bites of female sandfly. There are about 20 species identified as pathogens to human and other mammals, causing leishmaniasis. Different species infections lead to different forms of leishmaniasis. Cutaneous leishmaniasis, which is mainly caused by L. major, L. tropica, L. aethiopica and L. mexicana, is recognized by the presence of large number of skin ulcers. Other species such as L. braziliensis and L. panamensis/L. guyanensis infections may metastasize and affect the mucous membrane of the mouth and throat cavities and surrounding tissues causing mucocutaneous leishmaniasis. Lastly, the visceral leishmaniasis, which is primarily caused by L. donovani complex (L. donovani, L. archibaldi, L. infantum syn. L. chagasi), tends to cause fever, darkened skin swollen lymph nodes and even anemia. Currently, leishmaniasis is currently threatening 350 million people in 88 countries around the world.
