Description
The ViPrimePLUS Infectious Bursal Disease Virus RT-qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Infectious Bursal Disease Virus genome in bursal tissue samples.
Infectious Bursal Disease Virus (IBDV) is a double stranded RNA virus which infects chickens, causing immunosuppression and deaths. There are two serotypes of IBDV recognized. However, only serotype 1 causes clinical signs in young birds. Within the serotype 1 virus, there are at least 6 subtypes identified by cross-neutralization assay. These variants were reported to be able to overcome the high levels of maternal antibodies, contributing to 60 to 100% mortality rate among the 3-6 weeks old commercial chicks. The subclinical disease affects the 0-3weeks old birds, resulting in lymphoid depression of the bursa of fabricius. The clinical signs include watery diarrhoea, ruffled feathers, anorexia and enlarged, discoloured bursa. The other infected species such as turkeys, ducks, guinea fowl and ostriches tend to be asymptomatic. Recently, a very virulent IBDV (vvIBDV) is found in Europe, Latin America, South-East Asia, Africa and the Middle East, threatening the poultry industries.
