Description
The ViPrimePLUS Budgerigar Fledgling Disease Virus qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Budgerigar Fledgling Disease Virus genome in blood, faeces, cloacal swabs and fresh or paraffin-embedded tissue.
Budgerigar Fledgling Disease virus is a double stranded DNA avian polyomavirus (APV) which is also known as Papovavirus. It infects the various bird species, especially the fledgling budgerigars and causes the highly contagious Budgerigar Fledgling Disease with a mortality rate ranging from 25-100%. In an outbreak, 100% of birds in the aviary will become infected, but only the young will show symptoms. It is often that young birds died between 10 and 14 days of age (range, 10-28 days), and those that survived were stunted with abnormal feather development. Adults may be asymptomatic, thus becoming a silent carrier. Infected nestling can shed virus for up to 16 weeks, whereas ***** birds may shed virus for only 6 weeks or less. Therefore, real time PCR provides a sensitive, specific and rapid detection of the disease.
